A procedure is considered for the formalized synthesis of passive bridge circuits, which is based on a descriptor approach to the analysis of null-balance measuring circuits for alternating current. The starting point lies in generalized relations between the parameters of the measurable immitances and bridge circuits, in which one determines the set of values for the Boolean functions relating these parameters to the circuit characteristics

At the plant level, a smart grid unifies power grids, consumers and generating facilities in a single automated system which enables real-time tracking and monitoring the regimes of all participants. It responds automatically to the changes of all parameters in the power grid and maintains no-break power with maximum benefits and lower human involvement. The most effective control can be attained in smart grids by using intelligent agents. Their functionalities should be based on intelligent control algorithms with predictive models featuring high-precision treatment of process knowledge and adaptive learning. This chapter offers a concept of developing an intelligent multi-agent system that maintains stability of Russia’s Smart Grid incorporating an active analytical network (AAN) and new algorithms to determine the degree of the system’s stability by using Gramians.

This chapter discusses intelligent design techniques for predictive identification models of nonlinear dynamic plants. The techniques are based on inductive learning, i.e., on knowledge retrieval from process data. An identification method named associative search is presented. It is based on data mining tech- niques and enables the use of all available process data development in the iden- tification model design. Process situations resembling the current one in the sense of close process variable values are being selected from the process history; such situations are called associations. Process data clustering improves the computing speed and saves computational resources.

For more efficient knowledge exploration and searching for relevant information on the Internet, it is worthwhile to take the level of expertise of the authors of papers and materials into account and assess the reliability of sources. A measure is proposed to assess the level of expertise of authors, which takes the occurrence of relevant ideas and phrases in a text into account. The proposed measure also considers the independence of authors that refer to a particular paper and the chronological characteristics of published works.

Different constructions of the sensing elements of radio-frequency level sensors based on sections of long lines are numerically investigated by means of the Matlab program for the purpose of minimizing the measurement error caused by the nonlinearity of the output characteristic. It is shown that the nonlinearity is lowest for U-shaped designs. The nonlinearity factor KN may be regulated by varying the capacitance of a correcting capacitor connected to the input of the sensing element and (or) the length of one of the sections of the long line. In selecting an optimal capacitance of the correcting capacitor KN ≤ 0.15% for control media with dielectric permittivity in the range 2.2–30. A method is proposed for the investigation of the dynamic parameters of breathing and heartbeat based on the analysis of a block of coefficients of the wavelet transform of the phase signal assumed by a radiowave sensor. We note the high sensitivity of the method to local changes in the form of the components of the signal and its outlook for the creation of expert diagnostic and identification systems. A comparatively new trend in processing signals, involving a continuous wavelet transformation, is considered. Its advantage compared with the Fourier transformation in determining the frequency components of a time-limited signal, observed at the output of a radio-wave sensor with frequency modulation, is pointed out. The factors that affect the errors of analog and digital methods of measuring resonance frequency are considered. Analytical expressions are obtained for the errors of each of these methods, taking the appropriate factors into account. Abstract—Proposed were algorithms implementing the method of randomization for the digital measurement of the resonance frequency using the frequency or amplitude modulation of the frequency synthesizer output by a random signal. Formulas were obtained for systematic and random error of these algorithms. Numerical study of the randomization method was carried out using a model of the sensing element of the resonance detection device. The algorithm of one-dimensional frequency randomization was shown to demonstrate the best metrological parameters.
