Vladimir Zhozhikashvili, in full Vladimir Aleksandrovich Zhozhikashvili, was a prominent scientist, Dr. Sci. (Eng.), Professor, Academician of the International Academy of Informatization, Foreign Member of the Georgian Academy of Sciences, and Distinguished Machine Builder of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. He headed Laboratory No. 17 (Automated Queuing Systems) since the day of its foundation in 1957. He is known as the author of R&D works carried out for the first time in the world or in the USSR (Russia). They include the development of non-contact remote control systems on magnetic elements with a rectangular hysteresis loop and automated queuing systems, particularly the ones with computer speech recognition.
As a good organizer, Zhozhikashvili not only generated ideas but also implemented them. He was the general designer of Sirena, a widely known automated queueing system for civil aviation. Under his leadership, all-Union schools and seminars were regularly held in different republics of the country. Many of his students defended their candidate’s and doctoral dissertations and are successfully working in Russia and abroad.
His monograph on non-contact elements and remote control systems, described for the first time in the world, became very popular. In recent years, Zhozhikashvili led the development of queuing systems based on computer speech recognition at the Institute of Control Sciences. They have already attracted public attention with their novelty and efficiency of the applied solutions.
His main monographs are as follows:
- Sotrudnichayushchii komp’yuter: problemy, teorii, prilozheniya (Cooperative Computer: Problems, Theories, and Applications), Moscow: Nauka, 2006. — 393 p.;
- Seti massovoo obsluzhivaniya. Teoriya i primennie k setyam (Queueing Networks. Theory and Application to Electronic Computer Networks), Moscow: Radio i Svyaz’, 1988. — 192 p. (coauthor V.M. Vishnevsky);
- Beskontaktnye elementy i sistemy telemekhaniki s vremennnym razdeleniem signalov (Non-contact Remote Control Elements and Systems with the Time Separation of Signals), Moscow: Nauka, 1964. — 415 p. (coauthors R.V. Bilik, K.T. Mityushkin, and I.V. Prangishvili).
