Abstract— In place of popular Smith-type predictors, this
paper proposes switching to control based on the predicted
value of the controlled variable. This transition is possible for
both new and existing automatic control systems with classic
linear controllers. By using a predict for standard algorithms
(PI, PID), control quality is significantly improved, while
simultaneously increasing the stability margin. Calculations
conducted in this paper for single-loop and dual-loop control
systems showed that using a predict leads to a reduction in the
range of variation of the controlled variable by up to three times,
and the effectiveness of the proposed method increases with
increasing complexity of the control structure. This paper
develops research into manual tuning of a control system using
a single parameter—the forecast time. The possibilities of such
control are demonstrated by modeling various controlled
channels of medium-power power boilers.
