The paper presents the results of researches of intelligent mechanisms of the organizational system functioning and their developments to establish adaptive control system for plant manufacturing. Drawing from the experience gained in implementing intelligent control in a varied range of manufacturing systems, the paper highlights a need for multilevel self-learning and self-organization. Particular attention is directed toward adaptations of the widely used self-learning algorithms in an attempt to increase the effective applicability, and range of self-organizing control with the aid of artificial intelligence methodology. Both a theoretical approach and practice of railway freight wagons plants are considered to create a control manufacturing system which is adaptive to changes of market conditions. The system of decision making support includes intelligent mechanisms of the plant manufacturing system functioning based on intelligent information systems as well as on learning, self-organizing expert mechanisms.
