Аннотация
Education plays an important role in sustainable development. So universities need to abandon the role of passive transfer of sustainable development knowledge and take an active role in planning of social, environmental and economic development of their countries and Russia is no exception. This paper analyzes the practices of green strategy of Russian universities. Chronology of events and decisions determining the principles of sustainable development strategies for universities was studied. This paper investigates the practice of implementing the key functions in the sustainable development strategy of Russian universities. It deals with benefits and barriers in implementation of green university’s strategy based on data collected from survey of various website of educational institutions (universities) and overall discussion and analysis. The analysis has shown that Russian universities use only a few suitable green approaches and they are not integrated into the holistic strategy. But the trends of the environment and rapid growth of interest at Russian universities in sustainable development strategy make it possible to conclude that the situation will be better soon
