The Place Occupied by the Institute in the Russian Academy of Sciences
The whole history of the Institute is closely connected with the Academy of Sciences. Since its foundation in the framework of the Technical Sciences Department of the Academy, the Institute continued fundamental research and research in the theory and technique of control within the area of the Academy's basic researches during the years that followed.
This link was maintained even during a short period of time when the Institute became subordinate to the USSR State Committee on Automation and Machine-building (later-on to the Ministry of Instrument-making, Automation Means and Control Systems and then to the Ministry of Electrotechnical Industry and Instrument- building). In December 1990 the Institute was finally returned to the system of the USSR Academy of Sciences (which since 1991 has become the Russian Academy of Sciences).
In recent years the Department of Machine- building, Mechanics and Control Processes exercised methodical guidance of the Institute work within the Academy of Sciences. Traditionally the Institute maintains close scientific ties and connections with other Departments of the RAS, carrying out research in the field of power problems (in particular, nuclear power), physics, medicine, biology, etc.
Participation of the Institute in the Main Scientific Programs of Russia
The Institute with its high scientific potential actively participates in the main scientific programs of Russia closely connected with its research problems. The Russian Federation State budget funds these R&D programs on the competitive basis. Currently the scientists of the Institute participate of the following scientific programs:
· "Informatization"
· "New Information Engineering Means"
· "Safety"
· "Energy-and-resources Saving Technologies"
· "Social and Cultural Regeneration of Russia"
· "Chemical Technologies"
· "Public Health System in Russia"
· "Ecology of Russia"
· "Machine-manufacturing and Transport Engineering, Long-term Technologies"
In addition to the above programs, the Institute carries out fundamental studies in the field of theory and technique of control which are coordinated and financed by the Russian Academy of Sciences. Besides the above-listed programs the Institute fulfils the direct orders and agreements of enterprises and organizations in Russia and other republics of the former Soviet Union.
The specialists of the Institute concluded and signed over 200 such agreements and contracts. Among the most significant activities connected with realization of economic and municipal services contracts are the development and improvement of a computer-aided airplane ticket booking system, automation of stock exchanges and banking activities, etc.
Scientific and Organizing Activity, Publications, Inventions and Patents
The
Institute directs all its efforts to disseminate the knowledge in the theoretical
and practical aspects of control problems among scientists, specialists
from industrial organizations, high schools and universities. The Institute
regularly organizes conferences, symposia, and seminars, as well as domestic
and international workshops that are very significant for the development
and progress of control science. The Institute held the first meeting in
1940.
Nowadays the Institute organizes or participates as a co-sponsor in up to 10 conferences annually on various problems of control theory and control technology. The associates of the Institute have published hundreds of books and brochures, thousands of papers during the Institute’s existence. During the last past years the specialists of the Institute have received about 1000 authorship certificates. About 100 patents were issued to the Institute abroad including Belgium, United Kingdom, Italy, USA, France and Japan.
Intensive scientific and organizing work is performed by the National Committee on Automatic Control (NCAC) which was founded in 1958 after USSR entered in the International Federation on Automatic Control (IFAC). From the moment of foundation Academician V.A .Trapeznikov leads as the head of NCAC. He was the director of the Institute from t957 to 1987. Two IFAC World Congresses were held in Moscow in 1960 and in Tallinn in 1990 with the active participation of the NCAC and the Institute.
